Role Overview
The Store Director is the key leadership figure responsible for the overall management of a flagship hypermarket in Accra. This role requires a hands-on operator with deep expertise in fresh product management, a strong commercial mindset, and the ability to embed international retail standards within a new market.
The role encompasses full ownership of store operations, from team leadership and customer experience to P&L performance and fresh category excellence, while contributing to the establishment of a strong culture of quality, service, and operational discipline from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations Management
- Take full ownership of the store’s commercial and operational performance, including sales, margins, and cost management
- Ensure operational efficiency, store readiness, and compliance with international standards
- Implement and maintain operational standards, procedures, and brand guidelines across all departments
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team of department managers and frontline staff
- Build a high-performance, customer-centric culture across the store
- Deliver structured training and development programmes aligned with international retail frameworks
Sales & Performance
- Manage store-level P&L including revenue growth, shrinkage control, and cost optimisation
- Monitor KPIs and implement corrective actions to drive performance
- Prepare and present regular performance reports to senior management
Fresh Food Excellence
- Champion excellence across fresh departments (fruits & vegetables, meat, fish, bakery, deli)
- Ensure highest standards of product quality, availability, and presentation
- Drive continuous improvement in fresh category performance and customer perception
Inventory & Stock Management
- Ensure optimal stock levels, product freshness, and availability
- Coordinate with supply chain and procurement teams
- Maintain strict control over inventory accuracy and waste reduction
Customer Experience
- Ensure exceptional customer experience across all store touchpoints
- Handle escalations professionally and implement service improvement initiatives
- Monitor customer satisfaction and drive loyalty initiatives
Visual Merchandising & Standards
- Maintain brand and merchandising standards
- Ensure optimal product presentation and store layout
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety, and local regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular audits, floor walks, and performance reviews
- Maintain operational discipline and reporting accuracy
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Food Science, or a related field
- Minimum 8-10 years of retail management experience, preferably in hypermarket or supermarket environments
- Strong expertise in fresh product management is essential
- Experience within an international retail brand or franchise environment is required
