Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician – Kitchen Equipment is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of all commercial kitchen and food production equipment across store operations.
The role plays a critical part in supporting fresh food categories (bakery, butchery, hot food, and production areas) by minimizing downtime, maintaining equipment efficiency, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Technical Operations
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on kitchen, bakery, butchery, and hot-food equipment
- Diagnose faults and carry out timely repairs to minimize operational disruptions
- Service equipment including ovens, fryers, grills, mixers, slicers, mincers, meat saws, and rotisseries
- Inspect equipment regularly and identify repair or replacement needs
- Ensure proper functioning of electro-mechanical systems
- Installation & Commissioning
- Support installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment
- Ensure proper setup and compliance with operational and safety standards
- Coordinate with suppliers or contractors when required
- Operational Support
- Respond promptly to breakdowns affecting store operations
- Support production and store teams in resolving urgent technical issues
- Ensure equipment availability to maintain uninterrupted operations
- Training & Capability Building
- Train and guide local technicians on equipment handling and maintenance practices
- Transfer technical knowledge to support long-term local capability development
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, hygiene, and food safety standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service reports, and spare parts tracking
- Follow internal maintenance procedures and technical guidelines
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical diploma or certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in commercial kitchen equipment maintenance
- Experience within supermarkets, hypermarkets, hospitality, catering, bakery, or butchery environments is essential
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems
- Ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and wiring diagrams
- Advanced troubleshooting and fault diagnosis capabilities
